Terese Hutchison began her journey by operating group homes for girls up to 18 years old, determined to create a safe and nurturing environment for young women in need. When those homes eventually phased out, she pivoted and started helping former residents find housing and employment opportunities.
From there, Terese expanded into outpatient therapy and grew Carolina Therapeutic Services into a trusted behavioral health provider serving communities across North Carolina. Today, her organization delivers a wide range of services, including peer support, counseling, group therapy, medication management, housing assistance, and substance use recovery programs.
A passionate advocate for mental health, Terese focuses her work on underserved areas impacted by poverty, crime, and limited access to care. Her community outreach through food drives, days of prayer, and local giveback programs helped her secure major city contracts that allowed the agency to grow.
Beyond mental health, Terese also owns a cosmetology school whose clients often overlap with her mental health agency’s community. Remarkably, it is the only Black woman-owned, accredited cosmetology school in North Carolina, a symbol of her dedication to empowerment, education, and opportunity.
